About Us

The Mad Cyclists would like to introduce ourselves to you. Above you will find a link for each of our active members. We will be adding to that list as friends join us on future excursions.

Mad Cyclist was created in May of 2003 as an information portal for Thom and Emily's family and friends to track their progress throughout the maiden voyage, COVA. It was also designed to help their keep track of expenses, equipment, weight, etc.

We are currently based out of Fort Collins, Colorado. This has proved to be a great place for training as Colorado's front range offers a wide variety of terrain. We were initially crazy about mountain biking and owned mountain bikes. After a little refitting and a bit of cash, we transformed them into touring bikes, ready for a trip across the the U.S of A.!

Being adventurous (and rather spontaneous) sorts, we jumped into our first trip rather blindly into the COVA trip. We naively under-budgeted the endeavour initially and had to scrap and scrounge to get all the equipment needed. The World Wide Web was definitely our friend! (You can view a few of the many sites we used to do our research under Research->Links.) We did hours of research along with our physical training. It will soon be known if this paid off!
